Cantina Novello

In Avola, on the southeastern side of Sicily, Cantina Novello has been working with the island's most recognizable black grape varieties since the mid-20th century. Nero d'Avola and Frappato take center stage, alongside other regional grape varieties, entering the cellar to become structured reds, whites with a mineral profile, and balanced rosés, offered either in bulk or bottled. Three generations have passed down the craft, and the result speaks of the Syracuse soil more than any stylistic signature. The dual identity of the wines, Sicilia DOC and Sicilia IGP, allows the winery to navigate between the rigor of the regulations and a freer interpretation of the vintage, without altering the Mediterranean reference horizon. It is a work of patient selection, where the choice of variety weighs as much as the hand in winemaking. The winery opens its doors for tastings designed as a stroll through the viticultural landscape of the Syracuse area: it's advisable to schedule a visit and taste the reds alongside the whites to grasp the breadth of the range.
