CANTINA ORTENZI DI ORTENZI CHRISTIAN
Fermo · Province of Fermo · Marche
In Fermo, the winery preserves a barrel cellar that descends three levels of stone vats up to ten meters deep, a structural testament to a family journey begun in the 19th century. From this underground stronghold, the Ortenzi family navigates the four guaranteed denominations of Marche, bringing together very different styles: Vernaccia di Serrapetrona in its spumante and red versions, the structured reds of Cònero with at least twenty-four months of aging, and two distinct interpretations of Verdicchio Riserva, one from Matelica and the other from Castelli di Jesi. The resulting picture is that of a miniature Marche atlas, where each DOCG carries its own altitude and reference grape variety. The two Verdicchio Riserva wines, in particular, compare two souls of the same white—the more continental inland of Matelica and the Jesi hillside strip—revealing the variability of a territory that changes character within a few kilometers. The inherited fermentation knowledge is here fused with the enological demands of the present.
