Cantina Sociale di Monteforte d'Alpone S.c.a.
Monteforte d'Alpone · Province of Verona · Veneto
Founded in 1952, the Cantina Sociale di Monteforte d'Alpone brings together six hundred wine estates on the volcanic soils of eastern Verona. From this basin, the cooperative draws two DOCG denominations—Amarone della Valpolicella and Recioto della Valpolicella—both products of the appassimento method, but oriented towards opposite outcomes: the powerful and warm dryness of Amarone, and the controlled sweetness of Recioto, where residual sugar remains an integral part of the design. The terroir speaks through basalt: dark earth with reddish and silvery reflections, which imparts a recognizable mineral imprint to the wines. This is a heritage of soils that the cooperative manages on a large scale, mediating between the multiplicity of contributors and a coherent stylistic identity. In the transition from dried grapes to wine, the two DOCGs become two faces of the same practice: the same raw material, the same appassimento, two divergent interpretations of the boundary between dry and sweet. A collective expression of the volcanic Veronese region, which entrusts significant numbers with maintaining a clear territorial profile.
