Cantine Pepi

Mazzarrone · Province of Catania · Sicilia

Sicilia IGPSicilia DOC

In Mazzarrone, on the eastern side of Sicily, Cantine Pepi is a female-led enterprise: Rosa Pepi and her daughter Erika manage forty undulating hectares along the Dirillo river. Behind them lie four generations dedicated to wine—from trade to bottling to today's production—a journey that gives measure to their current work. The two Sicilian denominations, DOC and IGP, imprint two distinct registers on the labels: the first more codified, the second more free, both linked to the same basket of grape varieties suitable for eastern Sicily. Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese lead the reds, Syrah adds to the palette, while the whites complete the picture. The mineral character of the land is balanced by a measured extraction, in wines designed to last, where personality and clarity are sought more than immediate power. A dry interpretation of a corner of Sicily that rejects shortcuts.
