Cantine Serio
San Donaci · Province of Brindisi · Puglia
Ninety years of viticulture have tied the Serio family to the sunny plains of Salento, around San Donaci, where `Negroamaro` and other black grape varieties find the warmth that defines them. For much of the 20th century, and until the 1980s, this winery operated in the shadows: it supplied base wines to bottlers in Tuscany, Piedmont, and Veneto, lending structure and color to distant labels. The turning point arrived in the mid-2000s when agronomist Domenico Vincenzo Serio reopened his grandfather's renovated and modernized facility, entrusting it to his sons Giuseppe and Lorenzo. Since then, the company has bottled under its own name, focusing on `Salice Salentino DOC` in red, rosé, and white versions: a single area, three faces of the same terroir. Each bottle carries the memory of those who, for decades, cultivated without signing their name. Visitors to San Donaci can directly witness this transition from anonymity to authorship at the winery, tasting the wines where they are born.
