Casal Pilozzo

Monte Porzio Catone · Province of Roma · Lazio

Roma DOC

From Monte Porzio Catone, on the volcanic hills east of Rome, Casal Pilozzo operates within a single denomination that is, however, one of Lazio's most extensive: the Roma DOC, an appellation embracing sixty-four municipalities and offering a wide range of grape varieties. Reds and whites coexist in the regulations—Montepulciano, Cesanese, Sangiovese alongside varieties of French origin—and this breadth of choice becomes the producer's recognizable hallmark. The range prioritizes whites, also available in amabile (sweet) and riserva versions, complemented by reds that reflect the volcanic soil and Mediterranean climate of this part of the Castelli Romani. The ability to draw upon permitted indigenous varieties is not a technical detail but a sign of a stratified region, where a single denomination contains many possible expressions. Casal Pilozzo chooses a precise interpretation, defining its identity based on the territorial complexity of the hills overlooking the capital from the east.
