Atina DOC

In Gallinaro, in southern Frusinate, Casale Caira fully embraces the DOC Atina, a denomination that has made a borderland between Lazio and international grape varieties its hallmark. Here, the winery works with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot, vinified in rosso (red) and riserva versions that must reach at least 12.0% alcohol—a threshold that presupposes ripe grapes and carefully conducted harvests. The character of these reds arises from the interplay of volcanic soils and altitude. The continental climate of inland Lazio cools the nights and extends ripening times, allowing the wines to develop depth without slipping into over-ripeness. The result is a profile built on acidity and mineral tension rather than opulent softness: Bordeaux and Rhône-origin grape varieties reinterpreted through an Apennine geography that straightens their stride. It's an interpretation of Atina where structure does not forgo clarity, and the riserva becomes the measure of how well the territory can support aging.
