Cascina Bricco Ottavio, run by Federico Longo, interprets three pivotal denominations of viticultural Piedmont with an approach that prioritizes varietal expression and territorial verticality. The three DOCG wines — Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato, Barbera d'Asti, and Terre Alfieri — cover areas of vastly different sizes: from the seven municipalities of the Monferrato zone to the one hundred and sixty-five territories of Barbera d'Asti, up to the eleven municipalities of Terre Alfieri. It is precisely in Terre Alfieri that the winery cultivates Nebbiolo and Arneis, while the Barbera d'Asti requires a minimum aging period of four months. This production rejects the logic of volume in pursuit of precision: each denomination is treated as a distinct register, with its own timings and grape varieties. Not open to visitors, the cascina tells its story through the choice of engaging with three distinct regulations rather than focusing on just one, making geographical variety — not quantity — its working principle.
