In Diano d'Alba, in the Cuneo area, Cascina Cappellano concentrates ambitions disproportionate to its surface area on just a few rows. Luigi Veglio's winery pursues the maximum expression of each Langhe grape variety, moving between four DOCG denominations. Two are born from Dolcetto — Dogliani and Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba — translating what the winery considers the foundational emotion of these ridges; two from Nebbiolo, with Barolo aged thirty-eight months and Barbaresco twenty-six, grapes destined for serious aging. The particular soil and altitude shape these wines, guided by the conviction that even the most humble grape varieties can offer singular experiences. It's a reversed hierarchy, where Dolcetto doesn't play a supporting role to Nebbiolo but claims equal dignity, and where decades of familiarity with the vineyard count as much as the prestige of the denominations. The cellar welcomes visitors: stopping here means personally verifying how much height and depth a small plot of the Langhe can contain.
