CASCINA GIOVINALE
Three DOCG denominations define the perimeter of Cascina Giovinale, situated between Monferrato and the Alfieri hills, in southeastern Piedmont. Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato originates from a grape variety that thrives within a compact area of seven municipalities, while Terre Alfieri wines split into the white-berried Arneis and the red-berried Nebbiolo. Barbera d'Asti, harvested from the vast basin of one hundred and sixty-five municipalities, further expands the winery's scope, thus covering both restricted and widespread areas. Taken as a whole, this trio reveals the geological and ampelographic variety of a corner of the region where each hill dictates its own grape variety. Indigenous grape varieties and aging processes conducted according to the *disciplinare* bring together diverse characteristics: the spice of Ruchè, the tension of Arneis, the structure of Nebbiolo, the lively acidity of Barbera. Not a catalog, but an interpretation of southeastern Piedmont wine by wine, each linked to the soil that generates it and the rules that govern its maturation.
