CASCINA MUCCI di BION ALEXANDER
Roddino · Province of Cuneo · Piemonte
In Roddino, nestled in the Langhe, Cascina Mucci by Alexander Bion oversees four of Piemonte's most demanding DOCG denominations, all crafted from the cornerstone grape varieties of the Cuneo area: Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. This project is meticulously calibrated to the territory rather than sheer scale, with each wine precisely reflecting the zone it represents. The requirements of the denominations dictate the timing. The mineral-driven Barbaresco demands twenty-six months of aging; the more structured Barolo requires thirty-eight months: two expressions of Langhe Nebbiolo that the winery approaches without forcing. Alongside these, Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba and Dogliani complete the picture with reds that are approachable yet possess a distinct identity, each firmly rooted in its own soil. The winery is open to visitors: stopping here for a tasting is the most tangible way to line up, glass after glass, the distance that separates a Barbaresco from a Barolo, and these from the two Dolcetto wines, all within a small patch of hills that changes character with every slope.
