CASCINA SOT di Sanso Maurizio Az. Agr.

Monforte d'Alba · Province of Cuneo · Piemonte

🏡 Tastings & visitsBarbaresco DOCGBarolo DOCGDogliani DOCG+1

In Monforte d'Alba, Cascina Sot brings together four DOCG denominations centered around just two grape varieties: Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. From the former come Barolo, with its thirty-eight months of aging, and the structured Barbaresco; from the latter, Dogliani and Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba, which are more immediate and versatile. Founded in 1975, the estate has its roots in sharecropping: Maurizio Sanso's grandparents acquired the property, transforming agricultural work into a dedicated winemaking vocation. Today, the management remains familial—Maurizio alongside his parents Silvana and Leonardo, and his sister Lorena—spanning three generations of expertise with these two Piedmontese grapes. The contrast between the austere longevity of Nebbiolo and the drinkability of Dolcetto defines the entire range. The tasting room accommodates up to thirty-five people: a wonderful opportunity to compare the four wines in one place and grasp how their character shifts from one Langhe hill to another.
