Cascina Val del Prete

Since 1977, Cascina Val del Prete has cultivated the steepest slopes of Priocca, one of the most challenging fronts of the Roero. Here, viticulture does not erase the landscape: the estate preserves its woodlands and defends the biodiversity of a fragmented property, where each parcel imposes its own gradient and demands its own effort. Nebbiolo and Arneis find on these slopes the conditions that the Piedmontese territory reserves for only a few, amidst steep exposures and soils that change within mere tens of meters. The estate's sole denomination, Roero DOCG, dictates the rhythm of their work: at least twenty months of aging before the wine leaves the cellar, as prescribed by the regulations. The result tells two stories simultaneously—the effort of heroic viticulture, practiced where mechanization retreats, and the layered identity of this corner of Piedmont. This is not just any Roero, but the interpretation of a precise patch of land, understood slope by slope by those who have cultivated it for almost half a century.
