Founded in 1867, Contratto pioneered bottle-refermented sparkling wine in Italy, transforming Monferrato Muscat grapes into some of the nation's earliest spumanti. By 1910, the Canelli house had earned royal patronage—supplying the Vatican, Belgian court, and Savoia family—establishing itself as a beacon of sparkling excellence. Today, visitors descend into the historic cellars to discover Alta Langa DOCG spumanti and rosati, aged minimum 30 months, where exceptional fruit remains the sole prerequisite for greatness.
