Macchialta works from Castel del Piano in Grosseto, at the heart of Montecucco's seven-municipality zone. The producer focuses on Sangiovese-based reds, adhering to DOCG standards that demand minimum 13% alcohol and 17 months of aging. This commitment to extended maturation draws out the angular tannins and dark fruit character for which the zone's volcanic soils are known, distinguishing Montecucco from other Tuscan appellations.
