Alessio Magi
Teglio · Province of Sondrio · Lombardia
In Teglio, amidst the terraced vineyards of Valtellina, Alessio Magi cultivates Nebbiolo, known here as Chiavennasca, adapted to alpine viticulture conditions. His work spans two DOCG denominations, both built on the same grape variety but with opposite outcomes in wine conception. On one side is Sforzato di Valtellina, a red wine made from dried grapes, which the regulations mandate to have at least 14% alcohol and twenty months of aging; on the other is Valtellina Superiore, a structured Nebbiolo that matures for twenty-four months and translates the minerality of the terraces into the glass. One concentrates and enhances, the other seeks elegance and definition, but both demand the same technical rigor and patience. It is in this dual discipline that one can read the producer's relationship with one of Lombardy's most challenging territories, where every parcel reclaimed from the mountain imposes method even before ambition.
