Antonio Vallana

From Maggiora, on the Novara side of Alto Piemonte, Antonio Vallana dedicates himself to the two most demanding denominations of his territory, both founded on Nebbiolo, which here goes by the name of Spanna. Gattinara and Ghemme share the varietal composition — the main grape is joined by Vespolina and Uva Rara — and the same logic of waiting: the regulations require over three years of aging before the bottle reaches the market. That time is not a whim but the condition for the material to unfold and for the complexity of reds built to last to emerge. The rigor of the rule thus becomes a measure of style, even before law, and distinguishes these labels from more immediate Piedmontese production. The winery welcomes visitors from Monday to Friday: a tangible opportunity to verify, glass in hand, how a written rule translates into tannin, aroma, and structure.
