Costa Viola IGTLocride IGTPalizzi IGT+1

In Bianco, in the province of Reggio Calabria, at the southernmost tip of the peninsula, Bonfà Mario cultivates vineyards on mountain slopes that preserve ancient viticulture. His work spans four IGTs, which convey different registers and breadths of the same Calabrian strip: Pellaro and Palizzi, both crafted from Nerello and with a minimum alcohol content of thirteen percent; Costa Viola, spread across four municipalities with more flexible grape varieties; and Locride, the most extensive with twenty-five municipalities, where Montonico bianco defines the white wine style. More than a catalog, these four denominations form a map: full-bodied reds on one side, whites and freer interpretations on the other, all rooted in an area with significant elevation changes. This geographical breadth places the winery within one of Italy's most unique terroirs, where the proximity of sea and mountains and sharp temperature variations define the character of the wines. Bonfà's work is to hold this diversity together, interpreting each IGT for what distinguishes it from the others.
