Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG

In Frassinello Monferrato, in the province of Alessandria, Brusatin Ermenegildo produces Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, one of Piedmont's most extensive denominations, covering over two hundred municipalities between Alessandria and neighboring areas. The winery does not rely on a single grape variety: alongside Barbera, Freisa, Grignolino, and Dolcetto come into play, locally cherished grapes that contribute to defining the red wine's profile. What qualifies the "Superiore" mention is time: at least fourteen months of aging, sufficient to build structured wines with an alcohol content of thirteen degrees or more. This aging process does not seek immediate drinkability but rather longevity, allowing the clay and limestone character of the Monferrato soils to emerge. In a region where Barbera is often synonymous with everyday wine, the Superiore version represents its most ambitious interpretation, where the denomination demands patience in the cellar even more than rigor in the vineyard.
