Cantina Aru di Aru Mario
Iglesias · Province of Sulcis Iglesiente · Sardegna
In the Cixerri Valley, between Iglesias and the Sulcis sea, Cantina Aru di Aru Mario cultivates a range of Sardinian grape varieties—Malvasia, Monica, Moscato bianco, Nasco, and Girò—on mineral soils swept by salty winds. The four Denominazioni di Origine Controllata it oversees revolve around the Cagliari area: from Nuragus, a white with an everyday character, to the rarer expressions of Nasco and Girò, up to Cagliari DOC which encompasses multiple typologies under a single name. It is in the sweet and fortified register that the territory reveals its character: the drying of the grapes concentrates the aromas, and the riserva versions extend the aging times, distinguishing one vintage from another. The climate and soil remain the main actors; the winery merely accommodates them. The doors are open every day: it's worth stopping by to understand, glass in hand, how the wind and minerals find their way into every bottle.
