Cantina Crodo
Baceno · Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola · Piemonte
Cantina Crodo draws from the steep slopes of Baceno, in Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, to interpret one of Piedmont's most challenging terroirs through two regional Northern DOCGs: Gattinara and Ghemme. Both are built on Nebbiolo, flanked by the indigenous grapes Vespolina and Uva Rara, varieties that demand patience in the vineyard and cellar. The distinction between the two denominations is also measured in time: Gattinara rests for at least thirty-five months, Ghemme for thirty-four—prolonged maturations that transform mountain grapes into structured reds destined for aging. This is a process that rejects shortcuts and embraces waiting as a method, allowing altitude and alpine soils to impart tension and longevity. These two wines reflect the character of northern Piedmont: less exuberant than other Nebbiolo areas, more refined, shaped by months of aging even more than by the vintage. Crodo presents them as a synthesis of border viticulture, where each bottle bears the mark of the slope from which it originates.
