Cantina Giba oversees the calcareous territory of the Cagliari area through four DOC denominations, operating across a vast region that touches nearly 190 municipalities in southern Sardinia. The common thread uniting them is a group of grape varieties rarely found elsewhere—Malvasia di Sardegna, Monica, Nasco, and Girò—each with its own fermentation requirements, often leading to the high alcohol content that the regulations impose on the *liquoroso* (liqueur-like) and *riserva* styles, up to 13.5%. The range is best understood by its styles rather than individual labels. On one side are the fresh whites and *frizzanti* (sparkling wines), with Nuragus di Cagliari providing a crisp and immediate note; on the other, the meditation wines, with Nasco leaning towards amber hues and a liqueur-like sweetness, and Girò completing the family of Sardinian sweet reds. In between, the Cagliari denomination encompasses the territory in its name. It's a portfolio that reflects the dual nature of the island's south: the minerality of the calcareous soil and the thermal intensity that concentrates sugars and defines these wines.
