Cantina La Smeralda

On the slopes of Briona, in the Novarese area, Cantina La Smeralda entrusts Nebbiolo with the task of upholding two austere alpine denominations. Gattinara DOCG requires thirty-five months of aging before release, a long period that the estate supports with technical precision; alongside it, Ghemme DOCG completes the diptych of great red wines from northern Piedmont, where this noble grape variety finds a less forgiving climate than that of the Langhe. Vespolina and Uva Rara join Nebbiolo in the blends, bringing structure and aromatic nuances to wines built to last. Two contiguous yet distinct denominations that illustrate how the same grape variety changes its voice depending on the soil and exposure in Novara. The work here combines family heritage with attention to the challenging terroir of the area, without yielding to easy softness.
