Cantina Merano

Cantina Merano spans three denominations of Alto Adige, each interpretable as a different calibration of the same alpine landscape. From the Schiava grapes of Lago di Caldaro to the broader portfolio of Alto Adige — Pinot grigio, Lagrein, Chardonnay among others — up to the extensive IGT Mitterberg, the winery covers a basin of fifty-two municipalities with protected origins, united by a single logic of altitude and latitude. It is precisely the altitude, along with the influence of the mountains, that shapes the recurring traits of these wines: defined mineral profiles and an acidity that remains lively even in warmer vintages. Each denomination responds differently to these same forces, and the distance between a Schiava red and an Alto Adige white measures the breadth of the register. The winery is open to visitors, with tastings designed to highlight the philosophy behind each designation: it's worth a stop to understand, glass in hand, how a handful of degrees of latitude and a few hundred meters of altitude change the character of the wine.
