Sforzato di Valtellina DOCGValtellina Superiore DOCG

In Poggiridenti, on the terraced slopes of Valtellina, Cantina Riter works with Chiavennasca—the local name for Nebbiolo—under two guaranteed denominations. Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG is made from dried grapes, reaches a minimum alcohol content of 14%, and rests for at least twenty months before release: a red wine of dry power. Valtellina Superiore DOCG follows a more linear but no less demanding path, with twenty-four months of aging required by the appellation. In both wines, the valley's geography is evident: the schist slopes, the steep exposure, the continental climate that slowly ripens the berries. These are elements that the regulations capture in numbers—months, degrees, boundaries—and that the glass translates into structure and tension. The winery is not open for visits, but its two labels are enough to convey how much high-altitude viticulture demands from the winemaker and gives back to the wine.
