Cantina Villafranca
Albano Laziale · Province of Roma · Lazio
The story of Cantina Villafranca begins in 1909, when Salvatore Gasperini purchased volcanic lands on the outskirts of Rome, sensing their potential. In Albano Laziale, the volcanic soils impart a minerality that runs through the entire range, from whites to reds, and remains the most consistent signature of this Castelli Romani estate. The repertoire is articulated around two souls. From Malvasia and Bellone come the Frascati whites, in the dry Superiore version and the sweet Cannellino, both DOCG denominations; alongside them run the reds of the more recent Roma DOC, crafted from Montepulciano and Cesanese. These three denominations tell the story of a territory capable of speaking in opposing registers, between saline freshness and dark fruit. Winemaking practices are passed down here from generation to generation, and it's not just on paper: guests and enthusiasts walk the same rows worked by the family, and a tasting becomes the most direct way to gauge how much the local geology truly impacts the glass.
