Cantine Cogo

Above Gattico-Veruno, on the Novara slopes, Cantine Cogo has transformed a small family vineyard into a more conscious reality, now practicing organic methods on lands once belonging to the Marquises of Gattico. The two reference denominations are both DOCG and belong to Alto Piemonte's Nebbiolo region: Gattinara and Ghemme, obtained from Nebbiolo along with the complementary Vespolina and Uva Rara. These are wines that demand time. Gattinara rests for thirty-five months, Ghemme for thirty-four, and from these long aging periods derive the structure and density that distinguish the hillside reds of this northern strip. It is a work of patience, where the organic choice and the slow aging process move in the same direction. Visitors to the winery can experience this firsthand: tastings take place directly in the cellar, the most direct way to compare two closely related expressions of Nebbiolo, grown on soils with an ancient history.
