Cantine De Mare

Cirò Marina · Province of Crotone · Calabria

Cirò DOCMelissa DOC

Cantine De Mare works with two Calabrian denominations overlooking the Ionian Sea. The Cirò DOC is based on Gaglioppo and the area's indigenous red grapes, with a minimum alcohol content of 12.0%; the Melissa DOC, on the other hand, starts from Greco nero and whites like Greco bianco, pushing the minimum to 12.5%. These are two interpretations of the same coastal basin, where the land grape meets the sea breeze. From Cirò Marina, the winery leverages a terroir where continental red grape varieties ripen under coastal conditions, gaining warmth and concentration. The range ascends from basic reds to superiore versions, following the varietal discipline set by the production regulations. The result is a portfolio built on Calabrian ampelography rather than winery effects: each label declares the starting grape variety and the alcohol content that the region's sun dictates. This dual orientation—Cirò and Melissa—thus covers the entire chromatic spectrum of the Crotone coast.
