🏡 Tastings & visitsGattinara DOCGGhemme DOCG

Nestled in the Domodossola basin, at the entrance to the Ossola valleys, Cantine Garrone has been cultivating vineyards since 1920, when the family began replanting rows after phylloxera had devastated the region. It stands as an alpine outpost of Piedmontese viticulture, far from the more famous hills but connected to the same grape variety that made them renowned. Production revolves around two Nebbiolo dell'Alto Piemonte DOCG wines, Gattinara and Ghemme, where the grape takes on the local name of Spanna and is joined by Vespolina and Uva Rara. Both demand long waits—thirty-five and thirty-four months of aging respectively—before revealing deep, long-lived reds, shaped by severe soils and altitudes. The winery operates with environmentally respectful criteria and welcomes visitors eager to understand how a mountain Nebbiolo is born: it's worth a stop in Domodossola to taste the two denominations side by side and discern, glass after glass, the differences of this layered terroir.
