Cantine Patriarca
Gattinara · Province of Vercelli · Piemonte
On the northern slopes of Gattinara, in the province of Vercelli, Cantine Patriarca cultivates the Nebbiolo that is the origin of their two denominations. Gattinara and Ghemme, both DOCG and contiguous, share the grape variety's matrix but not the soils: it is the mineral and granitic terroirs of this northeastern sector of Piedmont that separate their voices. Reds also include Spanna, Vespolina, and Uva Rara, in blends that build structure without sacrificing finesse. Time is part of the regulations: Gattinara requires at least thirty-five months of aging, and in that long wait, the wine gains depth and endurance. The winery is open to visitors all year round, with tastings designed to show how prolonged aging shapes tannins and complexity. Those who come here can compare the two DOCG side by side and read, glass after glass, the geology of an alpine Nebbiolo, less known than that of the Langhe but of equal vigor.
