In San Giorgio Monferrato, in the Alessandria Monferrato area, Carena Ss works with a single, yet broad-reaching, denomination: the Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, whose production zone encompasses 212 municipalities. The wine is primarily made from Barbera, complemented by Freisa, Grignolino, and Dolcetto, in a blend that expands the palette of Monferrato reds. The "Superiore" qualification is evident in the regulations: a minimum alcohol content of 13% and at least fourteen months of aging before release to the market.
