Casa Ponziana di Caterina Salerno

In Riace, on the Reggio Calabria coast, Casa Ponziana di Caterina Salerno is an organic farm established in 2004 on lands that have been in the family for generations. The name recalls the Ponziani, as the family was known since the 19th century, and honors Caterina's great-grandfather and grandfather, both named Ponziano: a deep-rooted connection that links work in the fields to childhood memories and conviviality. Production focuses on a single denomination, Bivongi DOC, made from indigenous Calabrian varieties such as Gaglioppo and Greco nero. From these grapes, the winery produces reds, whites, and rosés, crafted where sea breezes and slopes descending towards the sea meet sustainable and organic viticulture. Visitors passing through Riace can stop at the estate to taste the three types and recognize, glass after glass, how the same sea-facing hillside translates into wines of different colors and temperaments.
