Cascina Montecchio

From Ottiglio, in the Alessandria area, Cascina Montecchio interprets the single denomination that defines it: Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG, a title encompassing two hundred and twelve municipalities in Piemonte. It's a red built on strict rules—a minimum alcohol content of 13%, at least fourteen months of aging—which push Barbera beyond its most immediate version, towards structure and longevity. The disciplinare allows for small percentages of Freisa, Grignolino, and Dolcetto to be blended with Barbera, native Monferrato grape varieties that round out its profile without distorting it.
