Home to fewer than five thousand residents in the southern Tuscan province of Grosseto, Castel del Piano capitalizes on the fertile volcanic slopes of Monte Amiata. This distinct mountain terroir nurtures 20 overlapping protected denominations, spearheaded by the robust Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG and the delicate Seggiano DOP olive oil. The high altitudes also yield the sweet Castagna del Monte Amiata IGP. Today, 18 verified local producers craft these altitude-influenced delicacies, with 3 of these estates opening their cellar doors for tastings.
