🏡 Tastings & visitsCatalanesca del Monte Somma IGTPompeiano IGTVesuvio DOC

In Trecase, within the confines of Vesuvius National Park, Casa Vinicola Setaro cultivates ungrafted vines (a piede franco) that preserve a rare genetic heritage, having survived where the volcanic soil repelled phylloxera. Their work spans three protected denominations: Vesuvio DOC, Pompeiano IGT, and Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGT, produced from Neapolitan grape varieties such as Piedirosso, Aglianico, Coda di Volpe, and Falanghina. From the fertile ash of the volcano come crisp whites, characterful reds, and passito and sparkling versions, each a direct expression of the terroir. The project, rooted in early 20th-century Vesuvius viticulture, prioritizes the safeguarding of biodiversity over the pursuit of a homogenized style. The winery opens its doors for visits and tastings: walking through the rows and tasting on-site remains the most direct way to understand how the rock of Vesuvius becomes wine.
